Ways To Play

Every athlete’s volleyball journey looks different. Some are learning the game for the first time. Some want more focused training. Others are ready to compete across the region and beyond. Mississippi Matrix gives elementary-through-high-school athletes a clear path to learn, train, compete, and continue growing.

From youth development and private instruction to Regional, Elite, and National teams, Matrix offers options for different experience levels, goals, schedules, and travel commitments. Every program is built around purposeful coaching, confidence, accountability, and the standards it takes to succeed on and off the court.

Explore the opportunities below to find the right starting point—and the right next step—for your athlete.

We hire coaches with significant baseball experience at the highest levels, and our coaches work with our athletes to transform them into the best baseball players they can be. Beyond the diamond, our staff goes the extra mile to prepare the young men for life outside of baseball by upholding the core Wildcatter values of integrity, competitiveness, accountability, and virtue.

THREE COMPETITIVE PATHWAYS

Mississippi Matrix club teams are organized into three levels: Regional, Elite, and National. Each level offers a different balance of practice frequency, tournament schedule, travel, and overall season commitment.

The right fit depends on an athlete’s development, competitive goals, and readiness—as well as the time and travel commitment that works for the family. Practice schedules and tournament details may vary by age group and season.

REGIONAL TEAMS

Regional teams practice twice per week and compete on the most travel-conscious Matrix schedule. Competition is primarily regional and usually consists of two-day tournaments, with the possibility of select one-day events.

Regional is a strong option for athletes who want consistent team training, meaningful tournament experience, and a more manageable travel commitment.

ELITE TEAMS

Elite teams typically practice two to three times per week and compete in a blend of regional and national tournaments. The schedule requires more travel than Regional and may include a three-day National Qualifier.

Elite is designed for athletes who are ready for an elevated competitive environment and a greater commitment to practices, tournaments, and travel.

NATIONAL TEAMS

National teams practice three times per week and follow Matrix’s most demanding tournament and travel schedule. Competition includes national-level two-day events and multiple three-day National Qualifiers.

This pathway is best suited for athletes prepared to make advanced training, high-level competition, and significant travel a major priority.

HOW TO JOIN A TEAM

Joining a Mississippi Matrix club team begins with tryouts. Visit the Tryouts page for current age divisions, registration requirements, evaluation dates, and season information as details are released.

Because openings and schedules vary by age group and season, families should review the current information before registering. When tryout registration is not yet open, follow Matrix online or contact the club for the next available opportunity.

WHO CAN PLAY?

Mississippi Matrix provides opportunities for athletes from elementary through high school. Players do not have to begin with a travel team to become part of the Matrix development pathway.

Newer athletes can build their foundation through Youth Programs, Camps, and Clinics. Players looking for individualized improvement can choose Private Lessons or Position Training. Athletes ready to pursue competitive club volleyball can take the next step through team tryouts.

2. PROGRAMS, TRAINING & CAMPS

Every athlete needs something different to reach the next level. Mississippi Matrix offers multiple training formats that help players learn the game, strengthen fundamentals, improve technique, prepare for an upcoming season, and become more confident competitors.

Families can select the option that best matches their athlete’s age, experience, schedule, and current goals.

START WITH A STRONG FOUNDATION

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Matrix Youth Programs introduce newer and developing athletes to the fundamentals of volleyball in an encouraging, active environment. Players learn how to move, control the ball, communicate, compete, and work as part of a team.

These programs are designed to build confidence in the gym while helping athletes prepare for school volleyball, future club opportunities, or the next stage of their development.

MORE REPETITIONS. REAL PROGRESS.

CAMPS & CLINICS

Matrix Camps and Clinics give athletes concentrated opportunities to improve in an energetic training environment. Seasonal offerings may include youth development, middle-school preparation, high-school training, and advanced skill or position-focused sessions.

Each camp or clinic is designed to provide purposeful repetitions, direct coaching feedback, and practical instruction athletes can carry into practices, tryouts, and competition.

TRAINING BUILT AROUND ONE ATHLETE

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private Lessons provide one-on-one coaching tailored to an athlete’s individual goals. This format allows players to spend focused time on the techniques, habits, and areas of their game that need the most attention.

With individualized instruction and immediate feedback, athletes can work toward greater consistency, stronger mechanics, better decision-making, and increased confidence.

POSITION TRAINING

Position Training helps athletes develop the technical skills, movement patterns, court awareness, and decision-making required for their primary position.

Focused instruction gives players an opportunity to repeat position-specific actions, correct small details, and better understand their responsibilities within a team system. Position Training is an effective complement to team practices, private instruction, camps, and clinics.
